Chapter 11:    I’ll be alright matt told himself as he sat next to Israel. I picked this quote because if he will be lonely and afraid

Chapter 12: He wiped his nose which had begun to run again and had he wondered if his body will ever stop hurting. I chose this quote because if his body hurts he will get weaker and weaker.

Chapter 13: I wonder how Katie is doing. Matt was thinking as he shook some snow from his head. I hope she’s warm I hope she’s safe I’ll never forgive myself if anything happens to her. I chose this quote because I didn’t know that matt cared about Katie.

Chapter 14: He is no longer here but in god’s glorious kingdom. I picked this quote because I didn’t know that Nathan Hornbee was religious

Chapter 15: I wouldn’t sign the king’s protection papers. That means that our farm is open game for plundering by British regulars and the hessians alike. Then the soldier reached for his black fur hat that was on the ground so that’s why they look like giants  matt thought  on seeing the solider put on the long shaped hat it is almost 2 feet above his head. I picked this quote because I didn’t know that they weren’t taller than normal men

Hi everyone.  I will not be checking reading homework in the morning, so you do not need to write it down. Of course, you should enjoy a good book tonight, but you don’t need to record it in your planbook.  We will be taking the practice MCAS tomorrow, so come to class rested and ready!

Long Trip

Similes: The sea is a desert of waves.

Theme: The sea is a desert of waves. It’s trying to say the sea is everlasting like a desert. It never stops. It keeps on going. My evidence is ” Day, night” “Day, night”.

Thoughts: The poem is telling me the deserts are like seas and the picture in my mind is like it’s cut in half and one half is the desert being everlasting. Then the other half is the sea being everlasting. That is my thoughts.

For the past two weeks, we have been studying imagery.  Last week, we studied sea themed poetry by Langston Hughes.  This week, we focused on creating imagery in our own poems.  Langston Hughes served as our inspiration.  Today, students published their poems.

What a wonderful collection of poems we created!  Students really channeled their inner Langston.  I was so impressed to see that the students followed in Langston’s footsteps, while using the literary aspects that we have been learning about all year.

The poems are hanging in the classroom right now, but I plan to type them up and distribute the collection to the students.  I am sure you will be impressed, too.

In chapter 11 I picked a quote that says “Okay? What is an Okay?” My reaction was feeling kind of curious because why wouldn’t Israel know what an Okay means? I also picked that quote because I think it’s funny.

 

In chapter 12 I picked a quote that says “What I wouldn’t give for a ride in a nice big heated car. And it wouldn’t even have to have a radio.” I felt surprised when he said that because it doesn’t really sound like Matt. I picked that quote because I think it’s the most surprisingly one. In chapter 13 I chose a quote that says “I’ll never forgive myself if anything happens to her.” And that is when Matthew was talking about his little sister Katie. Also I felt sad to hear that and it tells me that Matthew really cares about Katie. I chose that quote because I think it really expresses Matts feeling about Katie.

 

In chapter 14 I chose a quote that says “Tell mom I don’t want any breakfast. I’ve got gym first period today and I’ll probably throw up if I have to eat anything.” And Matt said that. I chose this quote because it made me feel kind of happy that he is thinking about gym.

In chapter 15 I chose a quote that says “I’d never thought I’d admit it but a bathtub sure would look good about now.” So that is what Matthew is thinking about in the book. I chose that quote because I thought it was funny and I felt really surprised.

 

In chapter 16 my favorite quote was when it says “One raised a tomahawk while the other held a bow with a long arrow pointed directly to Matt’s heart! “ I reacted really scared about what was going to happen because of the Indians. I chose that quote because I thought it was the best one and because it was surprising.

 

In chapter 17 I chose a quote that says “You mean if we get home. Tony said kicking a stone.” It made me kind of worried because, like are they really going to be able to get back home? I chose that quote because I think it kind of spoils what they are trying to do.

 

In chapter 18 I chose a quote that says “Do you really think its war paint? Tony asked.” It made feel really curious of what they will do next. I chose that quote because it made me kind of sad they are at war.

 

In chapter 19 I chose a quote that says “I got to open my eyes I’ve got to!” I was really scared because I thought Matt was going to get killed! I chose this quote because I thought Matt was going to get killed.

Last quote: In chapter 20 I chose a quote that says “If only Israel hadn’t gotten sick, we would’ve been walking out of the woods together right now.” That made me feel sad that Israel died because he was sick. I chose that quote because I think it reminds me about how happy, Israel was.
