LANGSTON HUGHES

Langston Hughes built an image in my mind about the dream keeper. I was thinking about when he said ‘’you dreamers bring me all of your heart melodies that I may wrap them in blue cloud cloth away from the too rough fingers of the world. I think the gist of ‘’ The dream keeper’’ is you can dream all you want but when you dream you are in a different world. I think the theme is when you dream you keep your dream memories in your head it does not happen in real life. My reaction of the dream keeper is happy because I like the way that it tells stuff about dreams and I really get an image in my mind I like it also because I think it tells you that once you have a dream it cannot come back again.

“Winter Sweetness” Poem by     Langston Hughes, Q&A made by P.D

                                  Questions & Answers

____________________________________________________________________________________

Q.1 “Explain how Langston built an image for you as the reader?”

I think Langston put the image in my eyes as a reader by first making me think about the

Snow and winter and then he’s makes the Snow and other things that describe winter into candy, sugar, chocolate, and all the other materials that are needed to make candy or chocolate.

Q.2 “Explain the literary devices Langston used (metaphor, simile, rhyme, etc.)”

For most or example it says in the start of the poem it says “the little house is sugar”. Also, for a section of the poem he rhymed pilled with child of the poem I think he mostly used similes and metaphors to transform winter items into different types of candy and treats. For example it says in the start of the poem it says “the little house is sugar”. Also, for a section of the poem he rhymed pilled with child.

Q.3 “choose your favorite line. Why is it your favorite?”

I think my favorite line is “And from his tiny window peeps a maple sugar child” I chose that Quote because it rhymes with the word before it and for me it just sounds so good how the poet Langston Hughes made maple sugar child sound so good!

Q.4 “Explain your opinion of the poem.”

I think the poem “Winter Sweetness” is a very good poem because of how the poet who created this Langston Hughes put the image into my head and made me think about winter turned into a candy land of sugar maple child’s, and sugar The only compliant is how the poem is how it’s very short and I wish it was at least 3 sentences longer, right. now the poem is exactly 2 sentences long. That is very short for a Langston Hughes poem.

“Quiet Girl” by Langston Hughes (written by EB)

“QUIET GIRL”

In the poem quiet girl, I like it because it talks about a girl that is lonely and has no dreams. But then in the beginning it says “to a night without stars, were it not for your eyes, I would greet you to a sleep without dreams.” I think Langston Hughes wrote this poem because he was sad about something. He wanted to write about something sad. I think this poem means that you have to be happy and talk to people and communicate with them or else you can’t be happy because they can’t help you. This poem is kind of like a metaphor like if you don’t have any dreams you can’t do anything. This poem puts an image in my head that looks like a girl all alone with no friends that can’t do anything because she doesn’t have any dreams. I think Langston Hughes used literary devices to make this poem like interesting and detailed. I think that because in the poem it says “you are like a night without stars”. So that means she isn’t really noticed. In the poem it also says “you are like a sleep without dreams”. That means she’s empty and has no ideas to think of. My favorite line in the poem is how it says “to a sleep without dreams”. I like it because it shows detail about the character and that means something. That is why that line is my favorite line. I like the poem also because I like the literary devices he used. Simile, repetition. That is what I like about this poem.

Thank You.
