LANGSTON HUGHES                                                                                    “sea calm”                How still, strangely still The water is today. It is not good for water to be so still that way. He built an image for the reader by saying “The water is today it is not good it is explaining that the sea is like so sandy and horrible.” Langston Hughes uses repetition. My favorite line is how still how strangely still the water is today. I like this line because it has how strangely. He used rhyme because it says “today and way”. My opinion is I like it because it is talking about the sea and I like the because you can swim and build sandcastle’s.

The gist of the poem is that the poet is describing how the moon looks like. The theme is that the poet is describing the crest moon how thin, slim and ghostly white it is. Langston Hughes build an image for me because in the poem it is “how thin and sharp is the moon tonight”. My opinion about this poem is that I like how it is describing the crest moon with imaginary. My favorite line is “how thin and sharp and ghostly white”. It is my favorite line because it explains how the moon looks like. There is rhythm in the poem because you can clap like a beat to the poem.

George Washington’s Socks by VM

George Washington’s Socks Reaction: My reaction for the book George Washington Sock’s is that it’s an awesome book I love the fantasy and how it had a lot to do with the revolutionary war.

Chapter 11: Don’t worry Matthew Carlton you’ve got a friend in Israel Gates. The reason why I chose this quote is because I thought it was nice how

Chapter 12: Matt would wait beside him not knowing how to help him. The reason why I picked this quote is because I thought it was sad how Israel was getting sick and Matt didn’t know how to help him.

Chapter 13: Promise me Matthew that you’ll get them to her Israel said, struggling to keep his head up. Miss Abigail Gates, on Din berry Road, Harvesto Massachusetts. The reason why I chose this quote because I thought it was sad how Israel was dying and he made Matt promise him to give his little sister the beads.

Chapter 14: He’s no longer here, but in god’s glorious kingdom. The reason why I chose this quote is because I thought it was nice how Mr. Horbee was trying to make Matt feel better.

Chapter 15: I’m an old man and I’ve worked my whole life for this farm. I chose this quote because I thought it was sweet how Nathan Horbee said he worked hard for the farm he had.

Chapter 16: One raised a tomahawk while the other held a with along arrow pointed directly at Matt’s heart. The reason why I chose this quote is because I thought it was scary when the Indians almost killed Matt.

Chapter 17: And they have my little sister, he tried to tell them, getting on his knees and walking around with his thumb in his mouth. The reason why I chose this quote is because I thought it was funny how Matt was pretending to be Katie.

Chapter 18: When he took his finger out it was brightened and he brought the redden finger up to his face. The reason why I chose this quote is because I thought it was cool how they could make war paint out or berries.

Chapter 19: He had only been standing like that for an instant, when he heard Katie call his name. The reason I chose this quote is because Matt finally found Katie when she was lost.

Chapter 20: No hooter screamed. Gustav! Gustav! He cried. I picked this quote because I thought it was sad how Gustav died.

Chapter 21: Katie, are you crazy? Q cried suddenly, when he saw what she was doing. The reason why I chose this quote is because I thought it was funny how Q freaked out about Katie.

Chapter 22: If only we could figure out the magic of the boat, Tony whispered as they floating in the darkness. I chose this quote because I thought it was mysterious how they were floating in darkness.

Chapter 23: Home sweet home were the only words on Matt’s mind as he walked into his bedroom. I chose this quote because I thought it was cool how they returned from the revolutionary war and everything was fine.

Sailor

By: R V

Basic gist: The basic gist is that the poem is describing a sailor what he looks like and it’s describing what the sea looks like and it’s describing what he looks like out at sea.

The basic theme: The basic theme is that when are out at the sea or ocean sometimes you have a lot of fun on the ship but it could be difficult to do stuff on the ship or you might have trouble steering the wheel so you might want to bring so people with you so you don’t have any trouble on the ship while you are out at sea and if you are out at sea by yourself you could get a little lonely so if you bring someone out to sea he or she could comfort you.

My favorite line: My favorite line in this poem is…The blue waves tipped with foam.

My Image: My image for this poem, in my head I pictured a sailor out at sea by himself or herself on a boat while the blue waves tipped with foam, so that was my image for this poem, sailor,.

My opinion: I really liked this poem because it gave a lot a lot details to describe the setting and it really created a good image in my head.

Winter Sweetness by Langston Hughes

Image: A Little house made up of sugar. The roof is piled up with snow, from a tiny, sugary window, there stares a tiny little maple-sugar child.

Literary Devices: In this poem, there are rhymes, rhymes like child and piled, I don’t think there are any other literary devices other than rhyme that I found.

Favorite line/why: My favorite line in this poem is “And from its tiny window peeps a maple-sugar child”. I like this line in Winter Sweetness because it sounds really sweet and sugary, and it has rhythm which I really like.

Opinion: my opinion in this poem is that I really like it, it makes music to my ears, I like how it sounds and I really like candy.

“Dreams” by Langston Hughes, Blog by EG

In the poem, “Dreams,” I have an image of achieving my dreams. Langston did that by telling us to always believe and never give up on your dreams.

I think this is a really good poem, because it is telling you to hold onto your dreams and always believe in your dreams and never give up. Also he was thinking up this poem as a good poem for any dreamers and who don’t believe in their dreams, like other kids who don’t want to believe in their dreams.

‘’ Autumn thoughts’’

Langston Hughes

In autumn thoughts I imaged that the fall is beautiful and its cool outside and the trees have yellow leaves. I noticed that there was rhythm and a metaphor the metaphor was like little brown butterflies. My favorite line was ‘’their petals dance in the wind’’. Also my favorite was that ‘’Like Little brown butterflies’’ and ‘’In Autumn they die and are blown away’’. My opinion is that Langston did a good job, I also like how Langston used African Americans to describe a butterfly that was brown. That is way I think Autumn thoughts is a good poem.

’April rain song’’ by: Langston Hughes blog by: CD 2016

I image silver liquid drops pounding on my head. Because it said in the article ‘’Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.’’ My favorite line is when it says “The rain plays a little sleep song on your roof at night.’’ I like this sentence because it makes me feel like a lullaby singing me to sleep. My opinion on this poem is relaxed because rain relaxes me with the cold rain splashing on my face when I go outside. The rain drops feel like jelly beans pounding on my head. It was raining in April and it reminds me of this song.
