Edgar’s dad left and his mom died when he was little. when he was an adult, his wife died. this relates to his literature, because many poem seem happy natural and then destruction, death and sadness happen at the end his life was sad, and so were many of his poems. many of his poems have death in them, and he experienced a lot of death in his life.
Things were starting to just get back together for him, when Edgar died. He was just getting over Virginia’s death, and had a successful lecture tour in the South. Dying this way is much like many of his poems, starting out happy and ending with death and darkness. His death was bad. I think it was very unfortunate that he died because he was finally getting over the death of Virginia. Edgar Allen Poe’s death was upsetting, he was just getting better. And who knows maybe his life would have gotten happier if he didn’t die but I don’t think that would’ve happened because common it’s Edger Allen Poe. I think it was very unfortunate for Poe because he accomplished his dream of owning a literary journal, but it failed within a short amount of time with the amount of criticism . Also something that made Poe’s life worse was when Virginia died. But then he started to make plans for the future but unfortunately he died which made me really sad because his life started to get better but then he died which was upsetting for me and unfortunate for Edgar Allan Poe. I think it was really sad and devastating that he was starting to put his life back together but then he just died. Maybe if he hadn’t died his life would have become happier and would of met a great woman and have a happily ever after. But instead people will remember him as a dark poet who died early. They won’t remember him as someone who put his life back together, that had a sad life that he turned around and made happy. From my point of view his life was sad and depressing.
In English Language Arts, groups are finishing up an Edgar Allan Poe project. Each group is running a campaign for the poem that best represents Edgar Allan Poe. The students are preparing speeches and campaign posters to advertise their choice. We will vote on Friday. The winning poem will be hung to represent Edgar Allan Poe in our Wall of Fame.
In Social Studies, groups are preparing a tour of South America. The tours will present information about each of the countries in South America.
Edgar Allan Poe’s college years were chaotic and tough. At first, he went to the University of Virginia. He dropped out due to financial problems, because he couldn’t pay his debts which came from gambling. Also, his foster father, John Allan, refused to pay off those debts. He joined the Army because he couldn’t support himself, and that was his only option. Later, he attended West Point, where he decided literature was his passion and he didn’t want to be there any more. John Allan refused to let him resign, so Poe purposely got court martialed to get kicked out of West Point.
