Topic One Math Test Friday.

What’s for homework tonight (and why)?

Today in math, we took a step back from the math book.  Students were working on operations with decimals and fractions this week, but it was becoming frustrating for them.  It became apparent that students were using algorithms without understanding exactly what the problem was asking them to do.  We worked on understanding these problems without using an algorithm, by drawing them out.  As a result, students have to draw the following problems for homework:

  1. 2 divided by 2/3
  2. 3/4 times 2
  3. 8 divided by 1/2
  4. 1/2 times 1/8

In addition, students need to make sure the following assignments are completed by tomorrow (they are necessary in order to complete an in-class assignment tomorrow):

Westing Game: character chart, vocabulary handbook, Sam Westing Time Line, List of Important Events

Jobs/Obama: Rewrite/fix the example.

AS ALWAYS, read for 20 or more minutes and record your progress at the bottom of your plan book page.

Have a great night.

Tonight’s Work

Today, as always, students must read for a minimum of twenty minutes.
