CH.11 My reacton for chapter 11 was happy. I was also felling sweet because it said ‘’I’ve got a friend. I’ll be all right. I’ll be all right .Matt told himself as he sat next to isreal .Who had fallen asleep with his arms over Matts shoulder’’.my favorite quote was I’ve got a friend .I like that quote because that means that that friend is deeply in matts heart. P

IN chapter 12 my reaction was confused because the author wrote ‘’matt had never experienced such a storm. HE could not even remember the last time he had been out in the rain and, when he finely did remember ,he relized it was just to run a few feet from the car to the store.in the end of chapter 12 I was feeling scared because it said blood thirsty so I thought some thing was wronge.my favorite quote was also blood thirsty because I thought a lot of action was going on.P

In chapter 16 my reaction was confused because matt said ‘’the loud crunching leaves and it was indian boy I did not know there were idian little boys here. It just did not make sence to me. My favorite quote is ‘’it sure is creepy in here blackjack. I like that quote because I like the name blackjack. P

In chapter 20 I felt happy for Katie because George Washington came and said ‘’there is a little girl the same age as here over where he lives. So George Washington gave her his sock to make her fell good because she really wanted  to play with that little girl. My favorite quote was ‘’no hooter screamed. In chapter 21 my reaction scared because it says ‘’the group was all together again but they saw that Katie was gone. My favorite quote is ‘’her little hands I though it was so cute. In the story it says ‘’only if we could find the magic of the boat’’. “Dreams”

Langston built an image for me by holding onto my dreams and believing in them, because life is fast and you can do anything you believe in or dream of.

Literary devices: “for if dreams die…that cannot fly” (rhyme)

metaphor: It is impossible to do great things if you cannot imagine them.

Favorite line: Life is a broken winged bird.  It is meaningful.

My opinion of this poem is to hold onto my dreams, no matter what happens in life.  Never give up and be strong.

“Long Trip”

Similes: a desert filled with waves like the sea.

Gist: He is talking about the sea and how it’s a desert of water.

The sea is a desert of water. I like that line, because it says it’s a desert of water and I like that simile.

I like the poem.  It’s nice, because it’s about the sea.

“Sailor”

He built and image for me by putting details in the poem, like how he talked about the sailor’s tattoos.

 

Langston Hughes had rhyme in his poem.  Examples: home, foam.

 

My favorite line is “Half a world away from home.”  I like this line because it says when you go somewhere, you know you’re not at home.

 

My opinion of the poem: I like it because it just makes me think of just you and the ocean, and no one, just you and the seagulls.

I was choked that even if you’re a kid you will go to jail. This quote was said by a soldier, he said this because they didn’t know if Matt was telling the truth, so he said they should let the captain decide.

I chose this quote because: when I read this I thought maybe that the members of the adventure club were at home. This was happening because they found the row boat and they went inside it and they vanished.

Quote: “we’re back! We’re back! .Matt cried as everyone joined in the merry chorus of laughter and cheers.

I chose this quote because: it showed how happy they were to be home again.

Chapter 23

Quote: “I’m going to watch T.V. By the time Mrs. Carlton appeared in the doorway, Matt was sitting on hid bed reading, after turning on every electrical appliance in his room.

My quote for chapter 11: “Oh, hi mom. How are you? Me? Oh I’m great. I’m just hanging out in the eighteenth century. Behave myself? Don’t worry, mom, George Washington and a few of his friends are here to see that. Home? I don’t know when I’ll be back, but I will come back I promise.” I chose this quote because it was funny it made me laugh a lot in my head, this quote is funny because Matt was pretending that he was calling his mother on the phone from inside his imagination but really he was in the eighteenth century. My reaction for chapter 11: I was kind of just laughing and laughing in my head.

 

My quote for chapter 12:” Together we’ll take care of those hessians. We’re a team, his voice coming into breaking into another cough. I chose this quote because it was a real symbol of friendship because they were going to take care of those mean hessians all together and it was a symbol of leadership because Matt was taking control of this situation and he was telling them all to have each other’s back and he was telling them to care after each other. My reaction for chapter 12: When I was reading this I was like wow maybe sometimes when there’s a problem I could take control of the situation.

 

My quote for chapter 13:” But…but we can’t leave him her alone!” I chose this quote because it was Matt sticking up for Israel and that showed a symbol of friendship because it was Matt telling someone that he did not want to leave Israel behind in the snow freezing and starving!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I chose this quote because it was Matt not wanting to leave Israel behind so Matt was being a really good friend to Israel. My reaction for chapter 13: I was like good job Matt in my head because he did not want to leave Israel behind so Matt was being a great friend.

My quote for chapter 14:” But I can’t leave him! “I chose this quote because it was another symbol of friendship from Matt to Israel so Matt really liked Israel as a friend so Matt and Israel were great friends so Matt kind of liked being in the eighteenth century as long as Israel was there with him. My reaction for chapter 14: I was like good job Matt again because this is another thing he said to somebody about Israel and this shows another reason that Matt really didn’t want to Israel behind cold and starved.

I thought it was good question because the man that Matt saw Matt didn’t know if he was a patriot of if he’s not.

“ Dreams”                                                                                     Langston Hughes Blog                                                                                                          Langston Hughes made an image in my head the image in my head was if you don’t have dreams you can’t be something basically if you don’t have hope in yourself you can’t be what you want to be without hope. Langston Hughes used the simile in the poem “life is a barren frozen with snow”. My favorite line is “hold fast to dreams for when go life is a barren field frozen with snow” this is my favorite line because it is a message to hold on to your dreams before they die. I like this poem because of the message.
