I Too sing America. By: Langston Hughes Blog By: LMT
I Think the imagery is that the darker brother is at the kitchen getting his food and then he is about to sit down on the table but then the mom says “Go sit over there now. You can’t sit here on the sofa with us. You have to eat in the kitchen.”
I think the theme of this poem is that no matter what color skin you are, you should be able to do ANYTHING. I think that is the theme because the mom isn’t letting the darker brother sit in the sofa with them, but only because he is African American.
My favorite line is when it says “When company comes nobody dare to say go sit in the kitchen now.”
“Winter moon”; Poem By: Langston Hughes Blog by: LMT
This poems imagery is very descriptive. The poem says “How thin and sharp is the moon tonight. How thin and sharp and ghostly white is the slim curved crook of the moon tonight!” That is kind of the whole poem but this is saying that the moon us thin, and sharp. And so you can picture the moon thin, sharp, ghostly white, slim, and curved. The rhyming words are tonight, and white. I think the theme of the poem is that it’s saying that the moon has many different kinds of adjectives. My favorite line is that it says “How thin and sharp and ghostly white…” This is my favorite line because it really describes how the moon is. My opinion is that I really like it because it really describes the moon.
